He completed his doctoral studies with distinction ("summa cum laude") in January 2018.
Education:
- Dr. rer. pol., University of Stuttgart (2018, summa cum laude)
- Magister degrees in Sociology, Psychology and European Ethnology, University of Augsburg
Research Interests:
Gregor Kungl’s research lies at the intersection of organizational sociology, innovation studies, and sustainability transitions. He investigates how large incumbent companies navigate and influence processes of sustainable transformation, with particular attention to the political and economic structures that shape their strategies. His work critically examines the concept of green capitalism and the role of strategic action fields in orchestrating socio-technical change.
Recent Publication Trends:
Across his latest 15 publications (2018-2025), a clear trajectory emerges: from analyzing the destabilization of German utilities during the Energiewende to developing typologies of incumbent behavior, and finally to a critical appraisal of the ideological underpinnings of green capitalism. These works integrate field theory, path-dependence, and multi-level transition frameworks to explore how powerful actors resist, adapt, or drive sustainability transitions.
