Greg Michalski is a Professor in the Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences at Purdue University, affiliated with the College of Science. His research focuses on stable isotope geochemistry, paleoclimatology, and atmospheric chemistry. He holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of California, San Diego (2003), along with MS (2001) and BS (1998) degrees from the same institution.
Key research interests include the geochemistry of isotopes in atmospheric and planetary contexts, such as nitrate, sulfate, and carbonate systems. His work explores climate proxies in desert paleosols and modern environmental processes like nitrogen cycling in forests and urban pollution.
Michalski’s awards include the 2002 National Science Foundation Doctoral Enhancement Award. His group investigates topics such as isotopic tracers for pollution sources, canopy nitrification in forests, and paleoenvironmental reconstructions using isotopes. Collaborations include projects with institutions like Beijing Normal University and Los Gatos Research.
Publications emphasize isotopic analysis of aerosols, river systems, and atmospheric chemistry, with a focus on China, Peru, and Antarctica. His team develops methods for isotopic tracing and integrates isotopes into atmospheric models like CMAQ and iRACM.
