Greg Lawson is a multifaceted musician and educator, serving as a Lecturer at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS), where he bridges classical and traditional music disciplines. He teaches in both the Classical and Traditional schools, fostering cross-genre collaboration. A renowned violinist, composer, and conductor, he has held leadership roles in major Scottish orchestras and ensembles, including the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. His work spans classical, jazz, folk, and tango, blending genres through projects like the Grit Orchestra and Moishe’s Bagel.
Lawson’s educational initiatives include integrating classical and traditional music curricula at the RCS, where Moishe’s Bagel is an Associate Artist. He has composed and arranged music for diverse artists and orchestras, including Martyn Bennett’s GRIT and Bothy Culture, which won multiple awards. His 2018 BBC Radio 2 commission Ballads of the Great War celebrated the Armistice centenary.
Lawson’s awards include a Herald Angels Award and recognition for innovation in traditional music.
