Greg King

Greg King is an Assistant Professor at the University of Alberta's Augustana Campus, specializing in environmental science and sustainability education. His work bridges climate science research with practical community engagement through project-based learning initiatives that address United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

His research focuses on forest responses to environmental change across temporal scales, combining dendrochronology with urban forest studies. Current projects include the Camrose Urban Forest Project, Dendroarchaeology in the Beaver Hills Biosphere, and Resilient Urban Forests for Canadians collaboration with UQAM. He employs tree-ring analysis to connect biophysical and social dimensions of greenspaces in small cities, while reconstructing regional climate history through dendrochronological methods.

Greg’s publications reveal consistent themes in climate-driven forest phenology, urban ecosystem services, and community sustainability education. His work spans from Arctic biogeography to local climate action partnerships with municipalities like Camrose and Spruce Grove.
