Greg C. Wright is an Associate Professor and former Department Chair of Economics at the University of California, Merced, affiliated with the School of Social Sciences, Humanities & Arts. He also serves as a Non-Resident Fellow at the Brookings Institution and a Research Affiliate at CESifo. With a PhD in Economics from UC Davis (2011), he previously held positions at the University of Essex and contributed to the Volkswagen Foundation's Global Linkages project.
His research focuses on labor market consequences of globalization, immigration, and technological change, with notable work on offshoring's impact and ICT's role in wage inequality. Key publications include studies in the American Economic Review, Journal of International Economics, and Journal of the European Economic Association.
Recent grants include $350,000 from Google.org for immigration policy frameworks and $50,000 from JP Morgan for Great Lakes economic planning. Awards include the Hellman Faculty Fellows Award (2016-2017) and UC Merced Senate Research Award (2016-2018).
His advisory work bridges academia and policy, addressing workforce development, immigration reform, and industrial strategy. Teaching includes courses on international trade, microeconomics, and immigration economics.
