Grahame Faulkner is a Senior Researcher and Teaching & Design Engineer (Electrical) at the Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford. He also serves as the Departmental Laser Safety Supervisor. Born in Oxford (UK, 1962), he holds a BSc (Hon) in Physics and Microelectronics from Brookes University (1992). Since 1986, he has worked at the University of Oxford, progressing from Mechanical Technician to Research Assistant (1996) and currently contributing to over 120 technical publications.
His research focuses on free-space optical communications, quantum key distribution, and optical wireless systems. Key areas include UV-C photon detection, low-photon flux links, and liquid crystal applications in luminescent concentrators. His work bridges theoretical and applied aspects of photonics and quantum technologies.
Notable contributions include advancements in handheld quantum key distribution platforms and solar-blind optical wireless systems operating at ultra-low photon levels. His review on liquid crystals underscores expertise in materials science for optical engineering.
