Graham Miller is a Professor of Sustainable Business at the Nova School of Business and Economics (Universidade Nova de Lisboa), holding the Rodrigo Guimarães Chair and serving as Academic Director for the Westmont Institute for Tourism and Hospitality. Previously, he was a Professor of Sustainability in Business and Pro-Vice-Chancellor/Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Surrey (2011–2023). He has held leadership roles such as Head of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management and has extensive experience in academic administration and strategic planning, including managing a £100m budget and overseeing international partnerships.
His research focuses on sustainable tourism, corporate social responsibility, and policy analysis. Key areas include sustainability indicators, ethical entrepreneurship, climate policy, and tourism governance. He has led major research projects funded by the ESRC, EPSRC, and the European Commission, totaling over £2M in grants. His work bridges academic inquiry with practical applications, emphasizing resilience, equity, and environmental stewardship.
Miller has supervised over 20 PhD students and examined 17 theses. His awards include Fellowship of the Academy of Social Sciences (2021) and the Higher Education Academy (2003). He contributes to editorial roles for journals like *Sustainability* and *Journal of Sustainable Tourism*, and has authored/co-authored numerous books and articles on tourism sustainability, ethics, and policy.
His current projects address regenerative tourism in Portugal, post-corona resilience strategies, and privacy in digital travel. He also engages in leadership programs such as Harvard’s Senior Executives programme and collaborates internationally through visiting roles at institutions like Griffith University and Wakayama University.
