Graham Harman is a Professor of Philosophy at the American University in Cairo and The European Graduate School (EGS). He is a central figure in the speculative realism movement, particularly known for developing Object-Oriented Ontology (OOO). Harman’s work critiques post-Kantian correlationism and advocates for a non-anthropocentric metaphysics where objects exist independently of human perception or utility.
Education: BA from St. John’s College (1990), MA from Penn State University (1991), PhD from DePaul University (2000). His doctoral thesis, Tool-Being, laid the groundwork for OOO.
Research interests include speculative realism, Heideggerian philosophy, and the ontological status of objects. His publications explore themes like withdrawal, relations between objects, and critiques of correlationism. Notable works include The Quadruple Object (2011), Weird Realism (2012), and collaborative works with Bruno Latour.
Harman’s articles and books consistently engage with continental philosophy, emphasizing metaphysical systems beyond human access. His work bridges philosophy with interdisciplinary fields like art, politics, and technology.
