Dr. Graham Gagnon is an Associate Vice-President Research and the NSERC/Halifax Water Industrial Research Chair in Water Quality and Treatment at Dalhousie University. He directs the Centre for Water Resources Studies and has secured over $38M in research funding since 1998. He has trained 25 PhD and 67 Master’s students, many of whom pursue careers in environmental sectors. His research focuses on water treatment, lead corrosion control, Indigenous water governance, and hydraulic fracturing impacts.
Key affiliations include roles on the Ministers’ Round Table on Environment and Sustainability, the Expert Panel on Hydraulic Fracturing, and leadership in establishing the Atlantic First Nations Water Authority. He has received awards like the AWWA George Warren Fuller Award and the 2018 Discovery Award for Professional Excellence.
His work spans microbial source tracking, drinking water safety plans, and wastewater treatment innovations. Collaborations with Indigenous communities emphasize culturally aligned solutions, while UV LED disinfection research aims to revolutionize water treatment efficiency. His lab hosts co-ops and interns, fostering the next generation of water professionals.
