Professor Graham Dutfield holds the position of Professor of International Governance at the School of Law, University of Leeds. He also serves as Adjunct Professor at multiple institutions, including Zhongnan University of Economics and Law and Queen Mary University of London. His expertise spans intellectual property, trade, health, and Indigenous rights, with a focus on sustainable development and global governance. Dutfield obtained a DPhil from the University of Oxford and an MPhil from the University of Cambridge.
His research explores the governance of technology, knowledge, and property in contexts such as public health, food security, and climate change. He has advised governments and international bodies, including the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food. Notable publications include Dutfield and Suthersanen on Global Intellectual Property Law and That High Design of Purest Gold: A Critical History of the Pharmaceutical Industry.
Recent projects include the Voices for BioJustice initiative, enhancing policy processes for Indigenous communities and biodiversity. He is a member of the International Society of Ethnobiology’s Council of Elders. His current research includes a book on Lifeworld, Landscape, and the Law.
