Graham Cassano is a Professor of Sociology at Oakland University's Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work and Criminal Justice. His research focuses on urban sociology, sociological theory, labor history, mass media, race, gender, and class analysis. He is particularly known for his work on the Flint water crisis and its intersection with neoliberalism, as well as studies on cultural representation in film and historical labor movements.
Dr. Cassano's recent publications include edited volumes such as Urban Emergency (Mis) Management and the Crisis of Neoliberalism: Flint, MI, in Context and co-authored works like Eleanor Smith's Hull House Songs. His scholarship critically examines issues of environmental justice, racialized geography, and the cultural dimensions of social inequality.
He teaches courses including SOC 3610 (Racial & Ethnic Relations), SOC 3640 (Urban and Community Sociology), and SOC 4000 (Sociological Theory). His work bridges theoretical inquiry with applied research, addressing contemporary societal challenges through interdisciplinary approaches.
