Govindarajan Navaneethakrishnan is an Assistant Instructional Professor at the University of Chicago’s Department of South Asian Languages and Civilizations. Specializing in Tamil studies, he has been teaching since 2021 and focuses on literary and cultural history, poetics, and colonial impacts on Tamil scholarship.
- PhD in Tamil Studies from Madurai Kamaraj University (2008)
His research spans Tamil classical literature, devotional traditions, literary theories, and religious studies. Prior to his role at the University of Chicago, he served as an Assistant Professor at the American College in Madurai, India.
Dr. Govindarajan’s publications explore themes like the evolution of Tamil identity, colonial dialogues in language, and hegemonic structures in Tamil scholarship. He has developed course materials for Tamil language instruction and examines goddess worship’s literary history in Tamil Nadu.
