Dr. Gorkhmaz Abbaszade is a postdoctoral researcher at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research - UFZ, Department of Applied Microbial Ecology, since 2023. He holds a PhD in Environmental Sciences (2017-2023) and academic degrees in Environmental Biology and Biology from Baku State University. His work focuses on single-cell microbial analysis, flow cytometry, and bioinformatics (metagenomics, scRNA-seq) to study microbial community dynamics in contaminated environments.
- Education: PhD (ELU 2017-2023), MSc (BSU 2015-2017), BSc (BSU 2008-2012)
His research explores how potentially toxic elements and anti-inflammatory drugs alter microbial communities in urban soils, with projects including metagenomic profiling of contaminated sites and cytometric fingerprinting of bacterial colonies. Recent publications address topics like alkaliphilic bacterial taxonomy, heavy metal resistance genomics, and microbial adaptation in polluted soils.
Current collaborations involve studying viral-bacterial interactions and microbial stability in agroecosystems. He works in the Flow Cytometry working group at UFZ, contributing to projects under the Helmholtz research program "Sustainable technologies for the environment".
