Gordon Wolfe is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at California State University, Chico. He specializes in Microbial Ecology and Molecular Ecology, with research focusing on protist genetic diversity in extreme environments like Lassen Volcanic National Park, rhizosphere microbiology, and lipid biochemistry of marine organisms such as Emiliania huxleyi. He teaches courses including Microbial Ecology (BIOL 402) and General Microbiology (BIOL 321).
- Affiliations: Wolfe Lab (Holt 335), Eagle Lake Field Station
- Lab Resources: Advanced molecular facilities, including DNA sequencing (ABI 310), microscopy (Olympus BX-51, Nikon SMZ-800), and field equipment for water profiling.
Wolfe has secured an NSF grant to study organisms in Lassen’s acidic lakes and collaborates on projects involving plant-microbe interactions. His advising includes both graduate and undergraduate students, with past advisees contributing to studies on microbial community dynamics and neutral lipid proteomics.
- Recent Work: Investigates chemical signaling in marine protists and impacts of plant defense pathways on soil microbial communities.
He maintains an active lab with ongoing projects in bioinformatics for biologists and microbial diversity analysis.
