Gordon J. Getzinger is an Assistant Professor at the School of Environmental Sustainability (SES) at Loyola University Chicago. He holds adjunct/lecturer roles at MIT and Tufts University. His research focuses on environmental occurrence and fate of anthropogenic chemicals, including PFAS, pharmaceuticals, and pollutants in aquatic systems. He develops analytical tools like non-targeted mass spectrometry for contaminant detection. Getzinger earned his PhD from Duke University and completed postdoctoral training at ETH Zurich.
Education: PhD in Environment (Duke University, 2016); BS/BA in Environmental Science and Chemistry (Loyola University Chicago, 2010).
Research Interests: Environmental chemistry, contaminant fate, analytical methods, wastewater-based epidemiology, and policy applications. He has advised multiple students on projects involving PFAS, pharmaceuticals, and urban water systems.
Publications highlight his work on PFAS analysis, chemical exposure disparities, and pollutant pathways in urban environments. Awards include Loyola’s Gratias Award (2024) and NSF GRF Honorable Mention (2010).
