Goksel Misirli is a Senior Lecturer in Computing at the School of Computer Science and Mathematics, Keele University. He holds a PhD in Computing Science from Newcastle University (thesis: 'Data integration strategies for informing computational design in synthetic biology') and a BSc in Control and Computer Engineering. Previously, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Newcastle University and as a software engineer at companies like Ericsson.
His research focuses on computational design paradigms for synthetic biology, leveraging semantic web technologies, ontologies, and data integration. Key areas include algorithm development, model-driven design automation, and standardization efforts like the Synthetic Biology Open Language (SBOL). He also explores cloud computing applications for distributed computational workflows.
He is actively involved in SBOL standard communities and has contributed to versions 3.0 and later. His work emphasizes computational tools for biological system design, such as BioRxToolbox and libSBOLj3. Teaching includes courses on Cloud Computing, Web Technologies, and Communications and Networks.
Misirli’s research spans synthetic biology, systems biology, and bioinformatics, with a focus on bridging computing and biological systems. His recent work includes advancements in genetic circuit design, microbiome analysis, and standardized data exchange frameworks.
