معرفی
Professor Goedele Maertens is a Senior Lecturer in Retrovirology at the Department of Infectious Disease within the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London. Her research focuses on understanding retroviral integration mechanisms, particularly for HTLV-1, and the structural basis of integrase function. She leads the Maertens' lab, investigating host factors involved in viral integration and developing antiviral therapies.
Education: BSc Chemistry (University of Leuven, 1997-1999), MSc Biochemistry (University of Leuven, 1999-2001), PhD in Biochemistry (University of Leuven, 2001-2005).
Research interests include retroviral integration targeting, host-retrovirus interactions, and the structural biology of integrase. She has contributed to identifying PP2A-B56 as a key host factor modulating HTLV-1 integration.
Recent work highlights the therapeutic potential of integrase strand transfer inhibitors (INSTIs) for HTLV-1 and the structural insights into retroviral intasomes. Collaborations include studies on integration site preferences and antiviral drug efficacy.
Lab Team: Includes postdocs Dr. Roghaiyeh Safari and Dr. Mphatso Kalemara, PhD students Bethany Schneiderman and Kate Slade.
