Godfrey Kyazze

Professor Godfrey Kyazze is a faculty member at the University of Westminster, serving as Professor of Sustainable Bioprocess Engineering within the Faculty of Science and Technology’s Department of Life Sciences. He holds a BSc in Industrial Chemistry from Makerere University (Uganda), an MSc in Batch Process Engineering from Loughborough University (UK), and a PhD from the University of Glamorgan (now University of South Wales), followed by postdoctoral research in microbial electrolysis cells. His academic roles include course leader for the MSc Applied Biotechnology program and module leader for Fermentation Technology and Sustainable Biotechnology.

Research Focus: Kyazze’s work centers on renewable energy production (biofuels, biohydrogen), bioelectrochemical systems (e.g., microbial fuel cells for wastewater treatment and energy generation), and bioprocess optimization. Current projects involve sustainable dye production from bacteria, electromethanogenic reactor commercialization, and bioelectrochemical petroleum hydrocarbon remediation. Collaborators include Bluegene Technologies, WASE Ltd, and institutions in Nigeria and Egypt.

Teaching & Advising: Teaches Bioprocess Design, Microbiology, and Biotechnology modules. Supervises undergraduate/graduate research projects and advises on PhD topics in environmental biotechnology, bioprocess optimization, and synthetic biology applications.

Grants & Sponsors: Projects funded by the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851, Petroleum Technology Development Fund (Nigeria), Egyptian Government, and private alumni. Active in Westminster’s Sustainable Biotechnology Research Group and co-coordinates the Biotechnology Research Internship Scheme.

Labs & Facilities: Engages with advanced bioelectrochemical systems, microbial fuel cell design, and bioreactor optimization. Research aligns with Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing eco-friendly technologies for resource recovery and pollution mitigation.
