University of California , Santa Barbara (UCSB)معرفی
Glenn Beltz is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). His research focuses on micro- and nanoscale engineering, structural materials, and solid mechanics, with particular emphasis on thin film stress analysis, dislocation dynamics, and fracture mechanics. He holds a faculty position in the Mechanical Engineering department and oversees undergraduate academic affairs. His work bridges continuum mechanics and atomistic modeling to understand material failure mechanisms in metals and ceramics. Contact: beltz@ucsb.edu, Harold Frank Hall Room 1004.
Research interests include strain-gradient effects in materials, cohesive zone modeling under mixed-mode loading, and the interplay between dislocation nucleation and cleavage fracture. Recent studies address GaN substrate curvature, III-nitride layer cracking, and fracture behavior in bcc iron at nanoscale. His publications span over two decades, emphasizing experimental and computational approaches to material design and failure analysis.
Publications highlight trends in thin film mechanics, ceramic composite strengthening, and strain-engineered semiconductor properties. No awards or grants are explicitly listed in available texts, though his extensive publication record reflects sustained academic contribution.
