Giuseppe Sciortino is a Professor of Sociology at the University of Trento, affiliated with the Department of Sociology and Social Research. He has held visiting positions at Haverford College, Yale University, and others, and chairs the Research Committee 16 of the International Sociological Association. A Canada-Italy Innovation Award winner (2017) and faculty fellow at the Yale Center for Cultural Sociology, his research examines social theory, international migration, and the sociology of sexuality.
His interdisciplinary work intersects cultural sociology, political theory, and migration studies, exploring themes like decolonization trauma and populism. Recent books include Populism in the Civil Sphere (2021) and The Research Handbook in the Sociology of Migration (2024).
Awards include the Canada-Italy Innovation Award for contributions to sociological theory. He mentors graduate students and leads projects on migration regimes and cultural trauma.
