Giulio Mariotti is an Associate Professor in the Department of Oceanography & Coastal Sciences at Louisiana State University. He earned his PhD from Boston University (2013) following engineering degrees from the University of Florence. His research investigates coastal morphodynamics through mathematical modeling, laboratory experiments, and fieldwork.
Primary research areas include wetland response to sea-level rise, sediment-biofilm interactions, and carbonate platform dynamics. He teaches specialized courses in Ecogeomorphology and Gravity Waves in Shallow Water.
Awards include the American Geophysical Union's Luna B. Leopold Young Scientist Award (2014) and Robert P. Sharp Capstone Lecture (2014). His publications focus on marsh sustainability, sediment transport, and coastal evolution under changing climate conditions.
He directs the Mariotti Lab, studying coastal vulnerability through field measurements and numerical simulations. Research projects include Gulf of Mexico marsh sustainability studies funded by initiatives like the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative.
