Giulio Gonella

Giulio Gonella is a PhD student in Architecture, History and Design at Politecnico di Torino, currently in the 38th cycle (2022-2025). He is affiliated with the Department of Architecture and Design (DAD) and serves as an external lecturer and teaching assistant at the Interuniversity Department of Territorial Sciences, Planning and Policies (DIST). His research focuses on urban studies, environmental architecture, and post-industrial landscapes, with a particular emphasis on critical urban design and extractive industries.

Gonella's recent publications explore themes such as colonial ecologies in palm oil plantations and the transformation of post-industrial landscapes in regions like the Sambre Valley. His work integrates critical theory with practical analysis of territorial planning and urban ecology. Despite his early career stage, he has contributed to academic discussions on sustainable design and the socio-environmental impacts of extractivism.

As a teaching collaborator, Gonella supports courses in Urban Design and Planning at both the Bachelor's and Master's levels. His academic journey reflects a commitment to interdisciplinary research, bridging architectural history with contemporary urban challenges.
