Giulia Zanetti

Giulia Zanetti is a Dorothy Hodgkin Research Fellow at Birkbeck College, University of London, and affiliated with the Francis Crick Institute. She leads the Zanetti lab, which investigates the structural and functional regulation of coat complexes in eukaryotic membrane trafficking, focusing on the COPII coat.

The lab employs cryo-electron tomography, subtomogram averaging, and biochemical techniques to study how COPII assembly accommodates diverse cargoes and regulates secretion of large proteins like procollagens. This work bridges structural biology with cellular mechanisms in vesicular transport.

Her research has uncovered key insights into COPII's role in membrane shaping, including the structural organization of COPII assemblies and their interaction with cargo-specific regulatory factors. Recent publications highlight advancements in cryo-EM methodologies and structural characterization of transport complexes.
