Dr. Giulia Pecorella is a Senior Lecturer in Law at Middlesex University, London. She holds a PhD in Law from the same institution and is a Fellow in Higher Education (2019). Her academic roles include serving as Module Leader for International Organisations and International Dispute Resolution, and Literature for Social Sciences and the Law (Foundation Year Programme). She previously taught at Université Catholique de Lille as a Visiting Professor (2016/17).
Her research focuses on International Criminal Law, Public International Law, Human Rights Law, and International Humanitarian Law, with special interests in the Crime of Aggression, International Courts, Use of Force, and Non-state actors. She has supervised numerous PhD students exploring topics such as ICC efficacy, international crimes, and municipal law superiority debates.
Dr. Pecorella has contributed to major legal publications, including co-authoring chapters in the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court: Article-by-Article Commentary. Her work examines ICC jurisdictional frameworks, state accountability, and legal precedents in cases involving aggression and sexual violence.
She has held leadership roles including PhD Programme Leader (2020–23) and Acting Head of Department (2022/23). Her teaching spans foundational legal principles to advanced international law topics, reflecting her commitment to both academic rigor and pedagogical innovation.
