Giselle Rodrigues de Brito

Giselle Rodrigues de Brito is a Professor in the Department of Performing Arts at the University of Brasília (UnB), with extensive contributions to contemporary dance, choreography, and somatic practices through academic, artistic, and curatorial work.

Her educational background includes:

• Doctorate in Arts from University of Brasília (2016-2020)
• Master's degree in Contemporary Art from University of Brasília (2006)
• Specialization in Choreography from London Contemporary Dance School (1997-1998)

Her research focuses on embodied knowledge systems, critical somatics, and experimental movement practices. She investigates the body as a site of cultural expression through projects like 'Poéticas do Corpo' (Poetics of the Body), exploring intersections between dance, theatre, and somatic theory. Her work emphasizes decolonial approaches to movement pedagogy and contemporary performance creation.

She coordinates the N.E.M - Núcleo Experimental do Movimento research group within the Mover/UnB extension project, fostering experimental movement practices. Her artistic leadership includes directing Basirah - Núcleo de Dança Contemporânea (1997-2012) and serving on curatorial teams for the Movimento Internacional de Dança de Brasília festival. With over 20 international productions since 1986, she bridges academic research with professional choreographic practice in theatre and dance contexts.
