Dr. Gisela Kopp is a Research Fellow at the Zukunftskolleg, University of Konstanz, with additional affiliations in the Department of Biology and Centre for the Advanced Study of Collective Behaviour. She is also affiliated with the Department of Migration at the Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior. Her work integrates evolutionary biology, behavioral ecology, and genomics to study animal societies' influence on macroevolutionary dynamics.
- PhD in Biodiversity and Ecology (University of Göttingen)
- Diploma in Biology (University of Göttingen)
Her research focuses on the role of sociality in diversification, particularly how animal societies affect population genetics and speciation. She investigates biogeographic patterns in African savannah primates and explores ancient human-primate interactions through archaeoprimatology. Current projects include developing fecalFACS for genomic analysis and studying genomic relatedness in vulturine guineafowl.
Key scientific awards include the Hector Pioneer Fellowship, Konstanzia Fellowship, and Brigitte Schlieben-Lange Postdoc Fellowship. She has received multiple grants from Die Junge Akademie, Wenner-Gren Foundation, and Volkswagen Foundation.
Dr. Kopp has advised numerous students and research assistants, including
