Girėnas Povilionis is an Associate Professor at the Department of Piano and Organ, Faculty of Music, Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. A Doctor of Humanities, he specializes in historical organ research, restoration, and cultural heritage preservation.
- Key Activities: Director of the Centre for Lithuanian Organ Heritage; inventoried ~350 historical organs in Lithuania; restored organs in Kaunas Cathedral, Alytus, Kruonis, and other churches.
- Research Focus: Baroque organ building traditions, digital documentation of historical instruments, and Baltic organ heritage.
Scientific Contributions: Authored two monographs, including The Late Baroque Organ Building Art in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (2013), and over 20 studies. Managed CD projects Lithuanian Historical Organs (2008) and Lithuanian Historical Organs. Samogitia (2015).
Scientific Awards:
- Postdoctoral Fellowship funded by the European Union Structural Funds project ‘Postdoctoral Fellowship Implementation in Lithuania’ (2009–2011)
Leadership: Founded and leads the public non-profit Centre for Lithuanian Organ Heritage (since 2007); initiated the interactive organ catalog www.vargonai.com and documentary script The Old Lithuanian Organs (2008).
