Dr. Giovanni d'Avossa is a Lecturer in Psychology at Bangor University's School of Psychology and Sport Science. He teaches MSc courses in neuroimaging and neuropsychology to students from the School of Psychology. His work contributes to research in cognitive neuroscience and has connections to UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Dr. d'Avossa is a behavioral neurologist whose research focuses on characterizing the functional and anatomical organization of visual memory in healthy individuals and patients with focal brain injuries and neurodevelopmental disorders using behavioral and imaging methods. His primary research areas include visual working memory, spatial binding, cognitive impairment related to neurological conditions, and the neurological effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection. As part of a research team, he has been developing an unbiased assessment digital battery designed to assess cognitive performance in populations with low literacy and numeracy skills. He also collaborates with NHS clinicians to advance clinical practice and research activities in neurorehabilitation across North Wales.
His recent publications show a strong focus on cognitive impacts of various conditions, particularly the effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection on cognitive function across different age groups. His work spans multiple disciplines including neuropsychology, cognitive neuroscience, clinical psychology, and neurorehabilitation. The research demonstrates methodological diversity, employing techniques such as confirmatory factor analysis, systematic reviews with meta-analysis, community-based studies, and neuroimaging approaches.
Dr. d'Avossa is actively involved in supervising postgraduate research, indicating his commitment to mentoring the next generation of researchers in psychology and neuroscience.
