Giovanni Signorello is a Full Professor of Agricultural and Food Economics, and Rural Appraisal at the University of Catania, where he has been teaching since 2002 and was appointed full professor in 2005. He is affiliated with the Department of Agricultural Economics and Valuation within the Faculty of Agriculture.
His educational background includes:
- Graduated with honors from E. Fermi State Scientific High School in Paternò (1977)
- Graduated with honors in Agricultural Sciences from University of Catania (1981)
- Qualified as an agronomist (1981)
- Research position at University of Catania (1984)
- Associate professorship (1992)

Professor Signorello's research focuses on economic valuation methods for measuring revealed and stated preferences for environmental goods and ecosystem services. His work spans several key areas including the economics and management of protected areas, benefit-cost analysis of conservation projects, natural resource damage assessment, assessment of climate change impacts on natural capital and agricultural systems, and the economics of natural disasters. His methodological expertise centers on non-market valuation techniques for environmental resources.
Professor Signorello serves as scientific coordinator of the Environmental Valuation Laboratory (Envalab) and has held significant leadership roles including director of the Center for Nature Conservation and Management (CUTGANA) from 2013-2021. His research publications demonstrate consistent contributions to environmental economics methodology and application.
His professional recognition includes:

Professor Signorello has supervised numerous academic programs and has taught internationally at institutions including the International Labour Organization, CIHEAM in Zaragoza, and Israeli universities. He has organized multiple international summer schools on environmental economics and protected areas management. His current teaching includes "Valuing natural capital and ecosystem services" and "Economics and management of protected areas and environmental procedures."
