Giovanni Milandri is a Visiting Researcher in the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London (part-time Post-doctoral Research Associate since January 2024). He previously served as QARA Manager at MedTechONE (2023–2024), focusing on medical technology translation and quality management systems. His affiliations include the Sir Michael Uren Hub at Imperial’s White City Campus. He holds a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Cape Town (2013–2017), MSc in Biomedical Engineering from Oxford (2010–2011), and MScEng/BEng in Mechanical Engineering from Stellenbosch University (2000–2006).
His research integrates technical design with clinical requirements for medical devices, emphasizing regulatory compliance, business sustainability, and user-centric innovation. Key areas include prosthetics (e.g., robotic knee/ankle systems for amputees), surgical tools, rehabilitation devices, and frugal innovation projects. He managed a €5.2M Italian governmental prosthetics project (INAIL-IIT Lab) and led 4 startup ventures in MedTech.
Proficient in English, Italian, and Afrikaans, Milandri has certifications as a lab manager in Italy (Person In Charge since 2018). His work bridges academia and industry through quality management frameworks, clinical trial design, and translational research strategies.
