His research lies in information processing systems, with a focus on mobile and distributed computing, human-computer interaction, and AI applications. He leads the APPEAL - Applied Pervasive Architectures Lab and supervises PhD student Gabriele Scaffidi Militone.
His research interests include distributed systems, mobile computing, AI, data science, computer vision, quantum computing, wearable and embedded systems, remote diagnostics, smart homes, emergency systems, and serious games. These areas are reflected in his extensive involvement in both competitive and commercially funded research projects.
His recent publications highlight a strong trend toward integrating AI and data engineering in real-time and distributed environments, particularly focusing on low-latency systems, transactional data storage, and quality assessment in interactive applications using vision-language models. His work bridges theoretical foundations with practical implementations in mobile, cloud, and edge computing.
- Scientific Manager, MITO Monitoring Center Evidence Collection and Visualization System (2020–2022)
- Scientific Director, Digitalization of Agri-Food Logistics (2025–2026)
- Principal Investigator on numerous projects including MULTIPROCOM, NO FALLS, WISPERS, and others in mobility, safety, healthcare, and home care technologies.
He has advised and co-supervised research on Kotlin vs. Java in Android development and currently mentors PhD research on cloud continuum machine learning. He is actively involved in teaching graduate courses such as Web Applications II, Mobile Application Development, Systems Programming, and Digital Interaction Design. He is also a member of the Coordinating Committee of the Politecnico University Centre for Social Affairs.
His work is supported by a robust portfolio of research projects, spanning national, regional, and commercial funding, and has led to national patents in mobile unit positioning and group coordination systems.
