Giovanni Federico Gronchi

Giovanni Federico Gronchi is a Full Professor of Mathematical Physics at the Department of Mathematics, University of Pisa, where he also serves as Vice-Rector for International Cooperation and Relations. His academic career at the University of Pisa spans from university researcher (2005) to associate professor (2014) to full professor (2016) in the scientific disciplinary sector MAT/07 – Mathematical Physics.

Professor Gronchi's research focuses on celestial mechanics and mathematical physics. His contributions to the field are significant enough that asteroid (96217) was named in his honor.

As President of the Italian Society of Celestial Mechanics and Astrodynamics (SIMCA) since 2014 and Vice-President of the IAU Inter-Division AF Commission Celestial Mechanics and Dynamical Astronomy since 2021, he plays a leading role in the international celestial mechanics community. His research has practical applications in space situational awareness and asteroid tracking.
