Giovanni Angelo Scirocco

Giovanni Angelo Scirocco (b. 1962) is a Full Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Bergamo's Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, having been promoted from Associate Professor in July 2023 after serving since August 2015. He completed his Literature degree at the University of Milan in 1988 with a specialization in Contemporary History, focusing on 'Mondo Operaio', the PSI and International Politics (1948-1957). His academic career includes fellowships at the Nenni Foundation (1991-92) and Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI, 1992-1995), and research coordination at the University of Italian Switzerland in Lugano (1998-2003).

Scirocco's research examines socialism, anti-fascism, international relations, and Italian political history. His work analyzes ideological transformations, resistance movements, and political transitions in 20th-century Europe, with particular expertise in Italian socialist movements and their international connections.

His publications predominantly consist of critical reviews analyzing recent scholarship on Italian socialism, anti-fascism, and political biography. Recent works (2025) focus on political correspondence, resistance movements, and ideological developments, demonstrating consistent engagement with primary sources and historiographical debates. His reviews systematically examine methodological approaches and contribute to ongoing scholarly conversations in contemporary political history.

Scirocco holds significant editorial and institutional roles: Deputy Editor of Rivista storica del socialismo, Scientific Committee member of Ferruccio Parri National Institute, and Board Member of Giovanni Spadolini-Nuova Antologia Foundation. He teaches Contemporary History, History of Eastern Europe, and History of International Organizations at undergraduate and graduate levels.
