معرفی
Giorgio Rosatti is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering (DICAM) at the University of Trento, where he has been working since March 2011. Previously, from November 1995 to February 2011, he served as a Researcher in the same department and scientific disciplinary sector (ICAR/01 - Hydraulics). His academic work focuses on hydraulic engineering, particularly in the areas of debris flows, computational fluid dynamics, and river engineering.
Dr. Rosatti's educational background includes:
- PhD in Hydrodynamics (1997) from the Consortium of the Universities of Trento, Padua, Genoa and Florence
- Degree in Forestry Engineering with full marks and honors (1991) from the University of Trento
His research interests span a wide range of topics in hydraulic and environmental engineering, with particular expertise in debris flows, computational fluid dynamics, and river engineering. Dr. Rosatti has developed significant expertise in hazard mapping and decision support systems for water-related risks. His work integrates fluid mechanics principles with advanced numerical methods for hyperbolic conservation equations to model complex phenomena including snow avalanches, sediment transport, and free-surface currents. His research has important applications for understanding and mitigating natural hazards in mountainous regions.
Dr. Rosatti's scholarly output demonstrates a consistent focus on improving numerical modeling approaches for debris flows and related phenomena. His work shows a progression from fundamental mathematical formulations to practical applications for hazard assessment and management. The publications reveal his expertise in developing and validating computational models like TRENT2D for simulating complex geophysical flows. Recent work has expanded to include analysis of teleconnection patterns with avalanche events and improving rainfall thresholds for debris flow prediction.
Dr. Rosatti is an active member of several professional organizations:
- Member of GII (Gruppo Italiano di Idraulica) since 2013
- Member of IAHR (International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research) since 2014
- Member of EGU (European Geoscience Union) since 2016
Throughout his career, Dr. Rosatti has taught multiple courses including Fluid Mechanics for Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering programs, Hydraulic Protection of the Territory for the Master's program in Environmental Engineering, and previously taught courses in Hydraulic Engineering, Theoretical Biomechanics, and Fluid Power. His teaching reflects the integration of theoretical principles with practical engineering applications, particularly in water resources and hazard management.
His research has led to the development of sophisticated modeling tools for assessing debris flow hazards, with particular emphasis on creating practical solutions for mountain communities vulnerable to these natural disasters. The TRENT2D model represents a significant contribution to the field, offering improved accuracy in simulating two-dimensional dense snow avalanches and debris flows.
