Giorgio Chiandussi

Giorgio Chiandussi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (DIMEAS) at the Polytechnic University of Turin. He is also a Member of the Interdepartmental Center IAM@PoliTo - Integrated Additive Manufacturing. His research focuses on optimization methodologies, including parametric and shape optimization, and topological optimization with applications in additive manufacturing technologies.

Professor Chiandussi's research has evolved since 1996, with recent focus on topological optimization methodologies for additive manufacturing. His work spans multiple disciplines including mechanical engineering, dentistry, and biomechanics. His publications demonstrate expertise in finite element analysis, fatigue behavior of materials, structural optimization, and additive manufacturing. His research shows a trend toward interdisciplinary applications of optimization techniques, particularly in medical devices and safety engineering.

His notable recognition is the AIAS Capocaccia Award given by the Italian Association for Stress Analysis in 2002.

Professor Chiandussi has supervised doctoral students in Mechanical Engineering since 2011 and teaches courses including Design for Additive Manufacturing and Fundamentals of Structural Mechanics. He has secured funding for numerous research projects, including MechaTwing (2024-2027), STAMP (2016-2019), and SMAX (2011-2013), focusing on structural design, optimization, and additive manufacturing applications.

He is affiliated with two research groups: Mechanics of Materials and Joints: models, fatigue, impact and testing, and Vehicle Structure and Safety: design, simulation, optimization and testing.
