Professor Giora Sternberg is an Associate Professor of Early Modern History at the University of Oxford's Faculty of History and a Fellow of Hertford College. His research bridges political, social, and cultural history, focusing on symbolic interaction and writing practices in early modern Europe. He holds a DPhil from Oxford and was a Junior Fellow at Harvard Society of Fellows (2009–2012).

His work examines how status symbols and written documents shaped power, identity, and resistance in early modern societies. Current projects explore the power of manuscript documents in the Ancien Régime.
His 2023 *American Historical Review* article analyzes protestation as a tool of resistance, while earlier works investigate ceremonial records and micro/macro social dynamics. His research highlights how writing practices enabled both authority and dissent.
