Gina Garcia

Dr. Gina Ann Garcia is a Professor at the Berkeley School of Education, University of California, Berkeley, specializing in equity and justice in higher education, particularly focusing on Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs). Her research explores how HSIs institutionalize servingness to empower Latinx/x and minoritized students. She holds a PhD from UCLA, an MA from the University of Maryland, and a BA from California State University, Northridge. Dr. Garcia has authored influential books like Becoming Hispanic-Serving Institutions (2019) and Transforming Hispanic-Serving Institutions for Equity & Justice (2023), earning the 2020 American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education Book Award. She founded the Cal HSI Center and hosts the podcast ¿Qué pasa, HSIs?, promoting HSI research and policy.
