Gilpatrick Hornsby serves as Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Success and Executive Director of the Center for Faculty Innovation at James Madison University (JMU), alongside his role as Associate Professor in the Hart School of Hospitality, Sport, and Recreation Management. He holds a Ph.D. in Hospitality Management from Oklahoma State University (2015), an M.S. in Hospitality Administration (2012), and a B.S. in Hospitality Management from the University of North Texas (2009).
His research focuses on cost controls, human resource management, and fostering inclusive environments in hospitality education. Notable work includes studies on minority student belongingness, entrepreneurial behavior frameworks, and DEI initiatives. He currently leads strategic faculty development initiatives university-wide while maintaining teaching responsibilities in hospitality management.
Dr. Hornsby has been honored with the J.W. and Alice S. Marriott Endowed Professorship (2021-2025) and the 2018 Provost Distinguished Service Award. His advisory leadership was recognized through the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality's 2017 Advisor of the Year award.
His career progression includes serving as Interim Executive Director of the Center for Faculty Innovation (2021-2023) and advancing from Assistant to Associate Professor at JMU's Hart School between 2015-2021.
