Gillian Richards-Greaves is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at Coastal Carolina University's Department of Anthropology and Geography within the College of Education and Social Sciences. She holds dual Ph.D.s in Anthropology and Ethnomusicology from Indiana University (2013) and a combined B.A./M.A. in Music Education from Hunter College-CUNY (2004).

Her research focuses on African Diaspora cultural expressions, particularly in the English-speaking Caribbean and African Guyanese communities. Key areas include ritual performance, rediasporization, and Gullah-Geechee cultural traditions in South Carolina. Current projects include a monograph about African Guyanese wedding rituals in NYC and collaborative work with the Gullah-Geechee of Sandy Island.
Teaching specialties span global musics, ethnographic methods, and topics in ethnic identity including a course on Caribbean rituals and festivals. She actively bridges anthropology, ethnomusicology, and sociolinguistics in interdisciplinary scholarship.
