Gilles Reckinger

Gilles Reckinger holds an Endowed Professorship in Migration, Internal Border Regimes, and Bureaucracy at the Ilse Arlt Institute for Social Inclusion Research, University of Applied Sciences St. Pölten, within the Department of Social Sciences.

His research critically examines bureaucratic mechanisms in welfare systems that govern social participation and resource access, with emphasis on migration governance and internal border regimes. He investigates how administrative practices produce inclusion/exclusion dynamics, particularly focusing on intervention strategies for social work practitioners.

He currently leads the research project "Inclusion and exclusion in the welfare state – how bureaucracy manages social participation and access to resources. A review and intervention options for social work," which analyzes systemic barriers and develops practical frameworks for equitable service delivery.

As a core member of the Ilse Arlt Institute for Social Inclusion Research, he contributes to interdisciplinary initiatives addressing structural inequalities through policy-oriented scholarship and cross-sectoral collaborations.
