معرفی
Gilles Pijaudier-Cabot is the Deputy Director of the Laboratory of Complex Fluids and their Reservoirs (LFCR) and Executive Director of E2S-UPPA. He has been re-elected as a Senior Member of the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF) for two consecutive five-year terms (2012–2017, 2017–2022), reflecting recognition of his research excellence. He studied at École normale supérieure de Cachan and earned a PhD from Northwestern University. His career spans CNRS, École centrale de Nantes (where he founded the 'Rupture and Durability of Structures' team in 1999), and UPPA (since 2007), where he leads the LFCR and ISIFoR Carnot Institute (since 2011). He received the CNRS Bronze Medal (1991) and an ERC Advanced Grant (2008).
- Education: École normale supérieure de Cachan, PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University
His research focuses on fracture mechanics of quasi-brittle materials like concrete and rocks, damage localization models, and coupled fluid-solid interactions in porous media. Work includes computational modeling (Lattice Discrete Particle Models, peridynamics), experimental studies on fracture unclogging, and adsorption-induced swelling in double-porosity media. Key applications span geothermal energy, hydrocarbon production, and climate change mitigation.
His recent publications emphasize size effects in fracture mechanics, transport properties in porous materials, and dynamic stimulation techniques for fracture optimization. Awards highlight his early-career excellence (CNRS Bronze Medal) and sustained research impact (ERC Advanced Grant).
- Scientific Awards: CNRS Bronze Medal (1991), ERC Advanced Grant (2008)
He collaborates across disciplines, integrating nonlocal continuum mechanics with microstructural analysis. His leadership roles include founding research teams, directing laboratories, and institutional governance. Current projects explore advanced computational methods for fracture dynamics and environmentally sustainable geomechanical solutions.
