Gill Strait

Gill Strait serves as Associate Professor of School Psychology and Health Service Psychology and Program Director for School Psychology within the College of Human Sciences and Humanities at the University of Houston-Clear Lake.

His educational background includes a Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of South Carolina, complemented by an APA-approved pre-doctoral internship at Dallas Independent School District where he provided evidence-based cognitive-behavioral therapy to youth and families, followed by a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at Saint Louis Special School District focused on psycho-educational assessments and Response-to-Intervention program development.

Dr. Strait's research program centers on developing and evaluating efficient, culturally responsive school-based academic and behavioral interventions with particular expertise in motivational interviewing and instrumental school-based mentoring. His work primarily targets adolescent and college student populations, emphasizing practical applications in educational settings through evidence-based frameworks.

As Principal Investigator of a 5-year U.S. Department of Education grant, he maintains an active research laboratory involving both graduate and undergraduate students, with a documented history of co-authoring presentations and publications with student researchers. His lab focuses on translating intervention research into school practice while addressing diverse student needs.

Dr. Strait holds dual professional credentials as a licensed psychologist and Nationally Credentialed School Psychologist, integrating clinical and educational expertise into his academic work.
