Professor Giles Harrison is a Professor of Atmospheric Physics at the University of Reading’s Department of Meteorology. He is renowned for groundbreaking work in atmospheric electricity and public outreach initiatives, including the National Eclipse Weather Experiment (2015). His research focuses on meteorological measurements, volcanic plume electrification, and solar-terrestrial relationships, supported by grants such as a $5M award from the UAE’s Rain Enhancement Programme (2017).
His academic contributions include developing novel weather balloon instrumentation and advancing the Department’s Atmospheric Observatory for teaching and research. He supervises postdoctoral researchers and PhD students, such as Graeme Marlton, and collaborates with organizations like the Met Office and National Physical Laboratory.
