Gigliola Staffilani is the Abby Rockefeller Mauze Professor of Mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She works on dispersive partial differential equations and harmonic analysis, with a focus on nonlinear Schrodinger equations and wave turbulence. Her career spans faculty roles at Stanford, Princeton, and Brown Universities before joining MIT.
- Education: PhD in Mathematics, University of Chicago; Laurea in Mathematics, University of Bologna.
Her research explores the interplay between nonlinear PDEs, quantum dynamics, and probabilistic phenomena, often collaborating with leading mathematicians like Terry Tao and Benoit Pausader. She has secured multiple NSF grants and received support from the Simons and Guggenheim Foundations.
Recent publications highlight her work on global well-posedness, scattering theory, and probabilistic methods in dispersive equations. She actively promotes women in mathematics, organizing lectures and initiatives to address gender disparities in STEM fields.
- Scientific Awards:
- NSF Grants (DMS-2306378, DMS-2052651, etc.)
- Simons Foundation Support
- Guggenheim Foundation Support
- Editorial Roles: Member of editorial boards for journals including Communications of the AMS and JAMS.
- Teaching: Courses like Math 18.158 (2024) at MIT.
- Conferences: Organized events such as the Summer School on Wave Turbulence (2023) and ICERM programs.
