Gianluca Zanella is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer & Cyber Sciences at the University of Georgia's School of Computer and Cyber Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Information Technology from the University of Texas at San Antonio (2020), an MS in Computer/Information Technology (2015), and a BS in Physics from the Università Degli Studi Di Parma (1989). His research focuses on blockchain technology, cybersecurity policy, digital divide solutions, and entrepreneurship in technology-driven contexts. He has been recognized with the University of Texas Innovation Award (2022).
Dr. Zanella teaches courses such as Dissertation Research, Enterprise System Architecture, and Information Technology Project. His scholarship explores topics including biometric security, privacy in wearable devices, and the impact of arts incubators on digital inclusion. He actively contributes to university governance through roles in the Faculty Affairs Committee, Research Computing Infrastructure Committee, and initiatives like the BS in Biomedical Systems Engineering Design program.
His research highlights interdisciplinary approaches, blending computer science with social sciences to address challenges in innovation ecosystems, regulatory frameworks, and user behavior in technology adoption. Current trends in his work emphasize blockchain applications, attention economy dynamics, and bridging digital divides through arts-driven solutions.
