Gianluca Fantoni

Gianluca Fantoni serves as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Humanities, School of Social Sciences, at Nottingham Trent University, teaching Modern European History with specialized focus on Fascism, media history, and the political instrumentalization of historical narratives.

Research Focus: His scholarship critically examines the public and political deployment of history, notably through studies of the Jewish Brigade Group in WWII (resulting in a 2021 Journal of Modern History article and 2022 Einaudi monograph) and Italian post-war cinema's historical representations. Current projects investigate the history of the Italian left, cinematic texts as historical sources, and WWII Italian Campaign memory politics, reflecting deep engagement with 20th-century Italian political and cultural history.
