Gianluca Di Censo is a Research Fellow at Flinders University's National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction (NCETA) within the School of Health Sciences. He completed his PhD in Psychology at the University of Adelaide in 2024, building on his Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) and Bachelor of Languages from the University of South Australia.
His research expertise spans substance and behavioral addictions, with particular focus on the impact of sports betting marketing on young individuals, school-based bullying among Australian students, and epidemiological determinants of substance use, especially regarding methamphetamine and cannabis. His work bridges psychological, public health, and policy perspectives in the alcohol and other drugs (AOD) sector.
His recent publication in The Conversation examines the complexities of implementing a gambling advertising ban in Australia, highlighting issues with influencer marketing, content advertising, and regulatory loopholes. His research demonstrates a clear trajectory toward influencing gambling policy through evidence-based analysis of marketing techniques and their impact on vulnerable populations.
