Ghazala Azmat

Ghazala Azmat is a Professor of Economics at Sciences Po, where she joined in 2017 after a visiting year. She serves as Director of the Organizational Economics Programme at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) since 2023 and is a Fellow of the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF). Her academic affiliations include being a Research Associate at the Centre for Economic Performance (LSE), and Research Fellow at IZA and CESifo.

Her research spans labour economics, public economics, gender economics, and industrial organization. She employs empirical microeconomic methods to examine issues in education, managerial practices, and gender disparities. Her work frequently appears in top economics journals including Journal of Political Economy, Management Science, and Journal of Public Economics.

Awarded a prestigious ERC Consolidator grant in 2022 for her project UNEQUAL EDUCATION, her research demonstrates consistent excellence in understanding educational constraints and inequality. Her editorial roles include Associate Editor of Economica and former Managing Editor of Economic Policy. Prior to Sciences Po, she held professorships at Queen Mary University of London and Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona.

With a PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science, Professor Azmat maintains active research collaborations across Europe. She serves on the Executive Committee and Council of the European Economic Association, demonstrating leadership in her field.
