Gert Bange

Prof. Dr. Gert Bange serves as Vice President for Research at Philipps-Universität Marburg since May 1, 2022. He is a Professor of Biochemistry in the Department of Chemistry and a Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology since 2021. Previously, he was Deputy Managing Director of SYNMIKRO (2019–2022) and led an independent junior research group at the LOEWE Center for Synthetic Microbiology (2013–2017).

• Education: PhD in structural biochemistry (2007), University of Heidelberg; Biochemistry studies in Halle/Saale and Oulu, Finland (1997–2002)
• Professional Service: Member of the Senate of Philipps-Universität Marburg (2020–2022); Senate Committee „Studies and Teaching“ (since 2018); Speaker of the graduate school „Marburg School of Microbiology“ (2016–2022)

Research Interests: Focuses on bacterial adaptation to stress and environmental changes, microbial interactions with plants and animals, and structural mechanisms underlying these processes. His work bridges biochemistry and microbiology, with applications in synthetic biology and host-microbe systems.
