Gerrit Nandi

Prof. Dr. Gerrit Nandi serves as a Professor and Program Director for Industrial Engineering at Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg (DHBW) in Heidenheim, Germany. He also holds the position of Scientific Director for the MINT-Akademie (STEM Academy) and the Master's program in Industrial Engineering (CAS) at DHBW Heidenheim. His academic career spans both theoretical physics research and engineering education, bridging the gap between fundamental science and practical engineering applications.

Dr. Nandi's educational background includes a physics degree from University of Ulm and University of Leeds (BSc and Dipl. Phys.), followed by doctoral research on ultracold gases at University of Ulm with funding from the German Aerospace Center (DLR). His career path includes time as a development engineer at Carl Zeiss SMT AG working on lithography-optical illumination systems, and teacher training for secondary education in Mathematics and Physics before joining DHBW.

His research interests focus on the analysis and simulation of technical systems, with particular expertise in mechanical, thermodynamic, and optical systems. He has made significant contributions to quantum physics research, particularly in Bose-Einstein condensates and ultracold quantum gases. His work in STEM education has led to the development of the MINT-Akademie at DHBW, which focuses on strengthening mathematical and scientific foundational qualifications for engineering students.

Dr. Nandi's publication record shows a strong focus on quantum mechanics research between 2004-2010, with his most notable work including the 2010 Science paper on Bose-Einstein Condensation in Microgravity. His research trajectory demonstrates a transition from fundamental quantum physics to applied engineering education and simulation techniques, reflecting his current focus on industrial engineering education.

He leads the cosh-network (Cooperation School University) which connects secondary schools with the university to strengthen STEM education pathways.
